November 2020 in Music

Strangely, neither Tidal nor Deezer had made a playlist of my top songs in November. Instead, they’ve gone ahead and made lists for the whole of 2020.

So there are no playlists to share this time, but I do have my stats from Last.fm.

I’ve done a bit more listening in November, with the total number of tracks scrobbled coming to 429. That’s up from 249 in October. This makes sense because I was preparing for my wedding, moving and keeping myself busy in October, while November was a quiet, settled in month.

October 2020 in Music

I was quite pleased to discover that Deezer also makes playlists out of my most listened tracks of a certain month.

For some reason, WordPress doesn’t allow me to embed these playlists here anymore, so here’s the link to this October playlist.

On Last.fm, I’ve stacked up a total listening time of 16 hours in October, across 247 songs.

September 2020 in Music

September was a good month. Things did shake up a little bit when I discovered that the Tidal player has been applying DSP on their playback. I’m still using the service, but I’m actively considering moving from Tidal to Deezer. I am now extensively testing Deezer Hifi with my measly audio equipment. I plan to write about the whole process on my main blog soon.

For now, here’s a playlist of September’s best.

Music for Headphones

After much deliberation, I’ve decided to share my own personal “headphone mix.” This is a playlist of songs that I have found sounds great on headphones. I’ve chosen songs––from the very few genres I listen to––that have a generally wide soundstage.

The list starts with The Beatles. (Of course.) Neil Young is in there, and Pearl Jam, The Who, David Bowie, Jeff Buckley and Big Thief, which is probably my favourite modern band.

The playlist is not done yet, it will grow as I discover more songs. For now, it looks like this:

August 2020 in Music

My music taste doesn’t seem to have changed a lot in the past month. I’ve got The Beatles, Pearl Jam, R. E. M. and David Bowie in the list. Yet again.

What I’ve discovered is that there are many artists in this limited number of genres I listen to that I am yet to discover. Just yesterday I found a new supergroup, Them Crooker Vultures, who’ve put out just one record. The group consists of Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones and Josh Homme – what a lineup. I think this month’s most listened songs list will have a couple of tracks of theirs in it.

For now, enjoy this playlist of August’s best.
